First know as Livingston Centre, Howell is the seat of Livingston County Government. It was platted in 1835 by a group of settlers from Detroit, and later incorporated in 1863 and is officially designated a National Historic District.
The City of Howell’s historic downtown offers a variety of shops that feature products from nearly forty different specialty retailers. Dining options are abundant, with the unique offerings of a neighborhood pub, coffee shops, steakhouse, and more!
May through October presents the Howell Sunday Farmer’s Market. This specialty showcases the best locally-grown produce at its State Street location.
Howell is also the site of the Howell Melon Festival. This annual celebration spotlights the Howell Melon, a juicy hybrid cantaloupe who's growth is unique to the surrounding area. The three day festival, held in mid-August, draws approximately 50,000 visitors each year.
